HC Deb 18 March 1926 vol 193 cc602-3
58. Mr. BROCKLEBANK (for Mr. BENNETT)

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he proposes to consider the desirability of taking powers in the Finance Act to conclude conventions with different countries, if necessary on different bases, with regard to the whole question of the payment of Income Tax in foreign countries and in this country on the same profits?

Mr. McNEILL

A Committee of the League of Nations, on which this country is represented, will meet later this year to draw up draft conventions for the avoidance of international double taxation with a view to their ultimate adoption by willing States. As at present advised, I do not think any good purpose would be served by taking action in the direction suggested in advance of the deliberations of this Committee.
