Mr. VIANTasked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been directed to the resolution adopted by the Willesden Education Committee, expressing full agreement with the decision of the Board of Education to make the salaries of all teachers conform with the Burnham Award, but that the payments of grant should be on a basis equivalent to that now in force; and whether he is now taking any steps to assure education authorities that the grant will not be altered to their prejudice?
§ Lord E. PERCYMy attention has been called to the resolution referred to. As regards the second part of the question, I am sending to each of the authorities' associations a communication indicating my reasons for taking the action which I have taken, and my belief that the reforms in the present grant system, which I feel to be necessary, and which I am now discussing with authorities, will not have the effect which appears to be apprehended in the resolution.
