HC Deb 11 March 1926 vol 192 c2590
114. Mr. RUNCIMAN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of the funds held by friendly and other registered industrial and provident institutions in the United Kingdom or Great Britain at the latest date for which data is available?

Mr. CHURCHILL

At 31st December, 1923, the latest date at which data are available, the figures for England, Wales and Scotland were, for societies registered under the Friendly Societies Act, £108,807,255, and for industrial and provident societies £130,890,778.

Mr. W. THORNE

Is there any possibility of stopping the thief who is going to raid some of these funds?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

When will the right hon. Gentleman be able to let us have more recent figures than for 1923?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I do not know, Sir.
