HC Deb 11 March 1926 vol 192 c2559
11. Colonel DAY

asked the Home Secretary the number of police officers engaged for the protection of Cabinet Ministers, together with the approximate amount of wages paid such police officers?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The numbers vary from time to time At present there are 11 officers so employed.

Colonel DAY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that many of the Cabinet Ministers at present object to being submitted to this inconvenience?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

Whether that is so or not, it is a matter which is the responsibility of the police, and not of the Cabinet Ministers personally. The head of the police thinks it is right that they should take this precaution.

Colonel DAY

Is it not a waste of money to have these policemen stationed outside flats in London?

Sir W.JOYNSON-HICKS

No, Sir.
