§ 83. Colonel DAYasked the Home Secretary whether there is a special department of the Metropolitan Police to deal with white slave traffic matters; and, if so, who is the responsible officer?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON - HICKSThese matters involving police action, when they arise, are dealt with by the Criminal Investigation Department, under the orders of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, who is also the central authority for the United Kingdom under the International Agreement and Conventions relating to the traffic in women.
§ Colonel DAYWas there not an officer in charge of this department, and is not that necessary at the present time, in view of the many girls that are being shipped to the Continent?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON - HICKSNo, Sir; I think the work is being very efficiently carried on by the Commissioner of Police. If the hon. Member can give me any reason for doubting that, I will make full inquiry.
