HC Deb 09 March 1926 vol 192 c2100
45. Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government will take into consideration the recommendations of the Departmental Committee on Local Taxation, 1914, with a view to giving effect to those which would tend to relieve the inequalities of burdens imposed by the present system?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the reply given on the 25th October, 1920, by my right hon. Friend the present Foreign Secretary, who was then Chancellor of the Exchequer, to the present Member for the Devizes Division which summarised the action taken to carry out the recommendations of this Committee. As regards the matters remaining to be dealt with at that date my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Health, has, as the hon. Member is aware, prepared a scheme for dealing with the Poor Law service and the consolidation of the public health grants.
