HC Deb 08 March 1926 vol 192 c1909
64. Mr. A. V. ALEXANDER

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to a dispute between two sections of operatives, namely, heating engineers and plumbers, who are engaged on building extensions at one of the largest Glasgow hospitals; whether he is aware that the result of the dispute is causing considerable damage to the building; and whether he will take steps in the circumstances to bring the parties together with a view to an early settlement?

Mr. BETTERTON

The governors of the Victoria Infirmary have reported this dispute to my Department. They state that it is causing considerable damage to the buildings; delay in the treatment of urgent cases of illness; and that operatives other than the two sections affected are being delayed in carrying out their work. My Department is in communication with the trade unions concerned, with a view to arranging a meeting, and, having regard to the nature of the dispute, I am also in communication with the general council of the Trades Union Congress.
