HC Deb 30 June 1926 vol 197 cc1121-2
8. Mr. B. PETO

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the incidence of venereal disease in the Navy has increased or diminished in the last three years; and whether he can state what is the general view of the naval medical service as to the value of the preventive measures that have been employed?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Mr. Bridgeman)

For the years 1922, 1923 and 1924 (the latest for which figures are available) the statistics indicate a slow but steady decrease in the incidence of venereal diseases in the Royal Navy. Various preventive measures are employed—moral, physical and medical—and it is generally considered that these have contributed collectively to the reduction.
