29. Sir F. HALLasked the Minister of Health what is the total amount outstanding of loans granted by the government to boards of guardians; what generally is the security on which these loans have been made; and what is the interest which is charged on loans to guardians?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe total amount outstanding of loans granted to hoards of guardians is £3,761,675. The loans are secured by mortgages on the poor rates of the parishes and all the funds, properties and revenues of the guardians. The rate of interest charged an each loan is fixed at the time of issue of the loan. The rates for loans issued since 1st January has been 5 per cent.
