asked the Lord Advocate how many senior counsel have been instructed by the Government in a litigation at present being engaged in with the Highland Railway Company?

I have been asked to reply to this question. In the litigation to which the hon. Member is understood to refer, counsel are being instructed by the railway company concerned, who are the appellants, and with whom it rests to make such arrangements as they think proper for the conduct of the case.

Are not the Government briefing counsel in this case?

No, Sir; the railway company are briefing counsel.
