HC Deb 20 July 1926 vol 198 c1026
18. Mr. B00THBY

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether he will consider the possibility of prohibiting the importation of potatoes with a view to increasing Home production, and also as a means of checking the importation of potato disease into this country?

Sir J. GILM0UR

The Regulations at present in force under the Destructive Insects and Pests Acts provide an adequate protection against the importation of potato diseases from abroad, and I see no occasion to suggest that prohibition of importation is necessary on that ground. Any measure of prohibition on the wider ground suggested in the question could obviously not be confined to Scotland and in present circumstances I do not think that any sufficient purpose would be served by my considering such a measure.
