HC Deb 20 July 1926 vol 198 cc1039-40
62. Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Minister of Health if he can now make a statement as to the steps that have been taken by his Department in connection with the Plymouth housing shortage?

Sir K. WOOD

My right hon. Friend regrets that he is not yet in a position to make a statement.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Is the Ministry of Health doing absolutely nothing in the matter week after week? When does the hon. Gentleman propose to make an announcement?

Sir K. WOOD

The hon. Member is incorrect. All I said was that my right hon. Friend is not yet prepared to make a statement. Various negotiations are going on with a view to making a statement at the proper time.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that he has not put up any houses or got any response from the local authorities?

Sir K. WOOD

Steps are being taken.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Has the Ministry erected houses in anyone else's constituency?

Mr. BUCHANAN

In view of the demand by one of the Members for Plymouth for steel houses for Scotland, why are not steel houses being put up in Plymouth?

Sir K. WOOD

The hon. Member had better apply to the building trade unions.

Mr. MACLEAN

Will the building trade unions have anything to do with steel houses?
