HC Deb 20 July 1926 vol 198 cc1030-1
34 MACQUISTEN

asked the Minister of Transport whether the Inverness-Glasgow road is being proceded with, and is to be completed in all its sections, and when its completion is expected?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

Work is proceeding on the Kinlochleven-North Ballachulish-Fort Augustus section of this road, two contracts amouting to nearly £130,000 having been let. Detailed surveys of the route have for some time been in progress between Tyndrum and South Ballachulish, for which section a provisional allocation has been made, and it is expected that tenders will be invited in a few months' time. Until more complete data are available regarding the probable cost of different sections, I cannot state how long a mileage will ultimately be taken in hand, or when the work will be completed.

Mr. MACQUI8TEN

Might I ask the right hon. Gentleman when he expects to begin work on the Inverlachie section, for which the plans were prepared last January, and work has not yet begun on any part of that section?

Colonel ASHLEY

As my topographical knowledge of those parts is rather limited, perhaps the hon. Member will give me notice.

Sir W. SUGDEN

Is it conceivable that anybody will desire to go from Inverness to Glasgow?
