HC Deb 08 July 1926 vol 197 cc2267-8
67. Major GLYN

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what ships it is proposed to remove from the effective list during the current financial year; and whether there will be any changes in the ships belonging to or attached to the naval forces of the Dominions, and, if so, what?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

As the reply is somewhat long and contains a number of names, I will, with my hon. and gallant Friend's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

The reply is as follows:

The following 20 ships will be removed from the effective list of the Royal Navy during this financial year:—

"Ajax." "Sikh."
"Thunderer." "Tarpon."
"King George V." "Sable."
"Agamemnon." "Raider."
S/M "L.9." "Retriever."
"Radstock." "Redgauntlet."
"Satyr." "Telemachus."
"Sorceress." "Sharpshooter."
"Sabrina." "Stork"
"Truculent." "Rapid."

As regards ships belonging to or attached to the naval forces of the Dominions, the only changes which can be foreseen at the moment are the sale of His Majesty's Canadian Ship "Aurora" and the two Canadian Submarines "C.H.14" and "C.H.15," which is contemplated by the Canadian Government. The two new submarines for the Australian Navy may possibly be finished in time to be commissioned during this year, but it is impossible to give a definite reply on this point at the moment.
