HC Deb 07 July 1926 vol 197 cc2064-5
28. Mr. A. V. ALEXANDER

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that, as a result of the embargo placed upon the importation of pig meat from the Continent, the price of stores, in preparation for the Christmas trade in this country, has risen considerably; and, if so, will he state what steps he proposes to take in the matter?

Major Sir HARRY BARNSTON (Comptroller of the Household)

I have been asked to reply. The increase in the price of store pigs since the issue of the Order prohibiting the importation of car cases from the Continent has been inconsiderable. No action in the matter on my right hon. Friend's part is either necessary or desirable.

Mr. ALEXANDER

Is that answer based upon the average price of store pigs?

Sir H. BARNSTON

I must have notice of that question.
