58. Captain CROOKSHANKasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Governor-General of the Sudan has resigned his post; and whether he can make a statement on this subject?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Godfrey Locker-Lampson)Yes, Sir. Sir Geoffrey Archer, Governor-General of the Sudan, has been medically advised that it is essential for him to have at least a year in a temperate climate after some 25 years' continuous service in tropical Africa, and as it is impossible to leave the Sudan without a Governor-General for so long a period, His Majesty's Government have been regretfully compelled to accept his resignation. It is hoped that after a sufficient period rest his health may be sufficiently restored to enable him to continue his career of public service under less trying climatic conditions.
