§ Earl WINTERTONI have seen only a newspaper report of the case according to which a sentence of one month's rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 100 was imposed by the magistrate on the accused for the offence of causing death by a negligent act, namely, by running over them in his car in May last. The accused appealed, and was acquitted by the Calcutta High Court in August, the defence being that there was no rashness or negligence.
