Brigadier-General WARNERasked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the possibility of foot-and-mouth disease being brought into England by imported vegetables, he is prepared to introduce legislation to prevent vegetables entering this country from foreign countries where this disease is known to be rampant?
Mr. GUINNESSIn the absence of direct evidence incriminating foreign vegetables as a source of introduction of foot-and mouth disease, I do not think that the adoption of my hon. and gallant Friend's proposal could be justified. The possibility of infection from such a source is being carefully watched.
