HC Deb 11 February 1926 vol 191 cc1220-1
443. Mr. BASIL PETO

asked the Prime Minister whether he consider the advisibility of arranging for the allocation of an equitable share of profiles of statutory companies or municipal undertakings for the generation and transmission of electrical energy, reffered to in the Gracious Speech from the Throne, to persons employed by those new undertakings on the precedent operated for many years by the South Metropolitan Gas Company and other gas undertakings: and whether he will also consider including provision for employés to invest in the capital of the undertakings and for their representatives to have a share in the management?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

I have watched with interest the operation of profit-sharing schemes where they have been introduced, notably in the case of gas companies. While welcoming an extension of the principle on satisfactory lines, I feel that the matter is primarily one for agreement between employers and employed.
