asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware of the feeling in the country in favour of taxation by tariff of imported steel as the only solution of the difficulties of this industry; and, if so, as the trade is a vital one, will he consider a referendum on this question to the people of this country?

I cannot add anything to the statement which I made in reply to questions on this subject on the 21st December last. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
