HC Deb 04 February 1926 vol 191 cc305-6
44. Mr. CECIL WILSON

asked the Minister of Health the number of cases relieved by the Sheffield Guardians on account of the suspension of unemployment Benefit for each month since January, 1925, showing the number of cases in which benefit was being received, the number in which it was not being received, and the amount of relief granted owing to suspension of benefit?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

As the hon. Member is aware, I have, in response to a question which he addressed to me on the 15th December, arranged for an investigation into the cases of insured persons relieved by the guardians in the week ending 21st February and the week ending 28th November, respectively. This inquiry has involved a great deal of labour and I hope it will be completed very shortly, but I am afraid I could not undertake to extend the inquiry in the way the hon. Member now suggests.

Mr. W. THORNE

Has the right hon. Gentleman communicated with all the Poor Law authorities on this particular question?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Oh, no.
