§ 31. Mr. HURDasked the Minister of Health what steps are being taken to obtain a minimum butter-fat standard for cheese, cream and ice cream, in order to safeguard the consumer from inferior foodstuffs?
Mr. GUINNESSI have been asked to reply. With regard to cheese and cream I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave him in 11th February last, to which I have nothing to add. There is no power under existing legislation to prescribe a minimum butter-fat standard for ice cream.
Mr. GUINNESSThe matter was carefully considered by the Milk Advisory Committee, which is responsible for these things to the Ministry, and on their advice we took no action.
