HC Deb 13 December 1926 vol 200 c2548
31. Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Health what steps are being taken to obtain a minimum butter-fat standard for cheese, cream and ice cream, in order to safeguard the consumer from inferior foodstuffs?

Mr. GUINNESS

I have been asked to reply. With regard to cheese and cream I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave him in 11th February last, to which I have nothing to add. There is no power under existing legislation to prescribe a minimum butter-fat standard for ice cream.

Mr. HURD

What is the policy of the Government in the matter?

Mr. GUINNESS

The matter was carefully considered by the Milk Advisory Committee, which is responsible for these things to the Ministry, and on their advice we took no action.
