HC Deb 09 December 1926 vol 200 cc2278-9
45. Sir C. RAWSON

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider issuing an appeal over the names of appropriate Ministers to local authorities, traders and others throughout the country to organise an Empire shopping week commencing 23rd May, 1927, Empire day, in order to emphasise to the consumer, in a practical form, the varied resources of the British Empire?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

My hon. Friend's suggestion will be carefully considered.

Will the right hon. Gentleman also consider, before spending public money in this way, that this class of middlemen is among the most prosperous in this community; and why should public money be spent on making them more prosperous?

May I ask if the right hon. Gentleman has misunderstood my question in the same way as the hon. and gallant Member?
