HC Deb 09 December 1926 vol 200 cc2261-2
12. Mr. HANNON

asked the Home Secretary whether he proposes to introduce legislation in the forthcoming Session of Parliament to provide for the compulsory registration of charities on the same principle as that which underlies the War Charities Act, 1916, and the Blind Persons Act?

Captain HACKING

The whole question is at present under the consideration of an Inter-Departmental Committee, and I propose to await their Report.

Mr. HANNON

Has my hon. and gallant Friend had brought to his notice eases in which accounts are not published by these charities?

Captain HACKING

Yes, Sir; many cases have been brought to the notice of my right hon. Friend, and that is the reason why he has referred the matter to a Departmental Committee.

Colonel DAY

Can the hon. and gallant Gentleman say when some decision will be come to, in view of the fact that in the case of some of these charities many thousands of pounds are collected the whole of which goes in expenses?

Captain HACKING

A decision will be reached as soon as possible.
