asked the Minister of Labour whether he expects to arrange at an early date for an inquiry into the cost of living with a view to the establishment of a new basis for the calculation of the cost-of-living index numbers?

I have this matter under consideration, but am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Could not the right hon. Gentleman expedite this matter, in view of the Prime Minister's determination to reduce wages?

Mr. SPEAKER

I shall not be able to see the hon. Member when he rises if he abuses his opportunities.
