Mr. AMMONasked the Prime Minister whether he has received the report submitted to him of a discussion and Resolution passed by a large body of working men in Sheffield, many of them unemployed, calling upon the Government to examine and, if necessary, intro-duce legislation to check the economic waste arising out of the manufacture and consumption of alcohol; and whether he proposes to give the subject his consideration?
§ Captain HACKINGI have been asked to reply. The communication in question has been received. The checking of economic waste is a subject which much engages the consideration of the Government; but I cannot accept the argument in the communication and I am unable to hold out any hope that legislation can be undertaken in the direction desired by the hon. Member.
