§ 6. Lieut.-Colonel GADIEasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that a large number of typewriting machines coming into this country from America bear the name of Royal typewriter, and that this use of the word Royal is calculated to mislead the public into believing that this machine is a British. production; and if he will take steps by registration or otherwise to stop the use of such word in this connection in this country?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Captain Hacking)I have been asked to reply. The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, but whether the machine is generally believed to be of British origin I cannot say. I regret that, in the existing state of the law, it is not possible to take any action of the nature suggested.
