HC Deb 22 April 1926 vol 194 c1390
83. Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether there has been any increase in crime in Burma during the last year; and, if so, of what nature?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)

Yes, Sir. There has been for more than a year an extremely heavy record of serious crime in Burma, and special measures have, under the Governor's direction, been concerted in order to effect a diminution. Statistics are not yet available beyond the end of 1924, but murders and dacoities have been most frequently mentioned in the reports, with an extensive use of firearms for crime.
