HC Deb 15 April 1926 vol 194 c489
57. Colonel WOODCOCK

asked the Vice-Chamberlain of the Household if the Lord President of the Council will consider the advisability of setting up a Committee of Inquiry to investigate and report upon the constitution and working of the General Medical Council, which was set up by the Medical Act of 1858, with a view to bringing the work and authority of the Council more in accordance with the trend of modern ideas and practice?

Major HENNESSY

I beg leave to refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply which I gave him, on behalf of the Lord President of the Council, on the 8th December last, on this subject.

Colonel WOODCOCK

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman not aware of the great feeling throughout the country engendered by a recent decision of this Council, and will he give us some assurance that the Privy Council will take steps to look into the matter?

Major HENNESSY

Yes; I am aware that this question has been taken up with energy by certain sections of the Press. With regard to the latter part of the question, I would like my hon. and gallant Friend to put it down.
