Colonel WOODCOCKasked the Vice-Chamberlain of the Household if the Lord President of the Council will consider the advisability of setting up a Committee of Inquiry to investigate and report upon the constitution and working of the General Medical Council, which was set up by the Medical Act of 1858, with a view to bringing the work and authority of the Council more in accordance with the trend of modern ideas and practice?
§ Major HENNESSYI beg leave to refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply which I gave him, on behalf of the Lord President of the Council, on the 8th December last, on this subject.
§ Colonel WOODCOCKIs the hon. and gallant Gentleman not aware of the great feeling throughout the country engendered by a recent decision of this Council, and will he give us some assurance that the Privy Council will take steps to look into the matter?
§ Major HENNESSYYes; I am aware that this question has been taken up with energy by certain sections of the Press. With regard to the latter part of the question, I would like my hon. and gallant Friend to put it down.
