HC Deb 15 April 1926 vol 194 cc491-3
Mr. ARTHUR HENDERSON

May I ask the Leader of the House if he is in a position to say what business the Government propose to take next week?

The PRIME MINISTER

On Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday until a quarter-past eight, we shall consider further the Economy Bill. The business for Thursday will be announced later.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is the right hon. Gentleman in a position to say when he will make a statement on the proposed Ministry of Defence? I believe it was promised soon after we re-assembled after Easter.

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir. If I remember rightly, what I told the House was that I should be very pleased to make such a statement when that subject came up for Debate. I always said

it should come up on one of the Estimates. I shall be very glad to deal with it then.

Mr. THURTLE

Is it intended to take the Committee stage of the Army (Annual) Bill next week?

The PRIME MINISTER

Yes, I hope so, but I have not included it in the business I have read out. I have already said that the business for Thursday will be announced later.

Motion made, and Question put, That other Government Business have precedence this day of the Business of Supply, and that the Proceedings on the Economy (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill be exempted, at this day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order (Sittings of the House)."—[The Prime Minister.]

The House divided: Ayes, 204; Noes, 111.
