HC Deb 30 November 1925 vol 188 cc1794-5
3. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Undersecretary of State for India whether he is aware that the cost of the British Legation at Kabul is about £37,000 per annum; whether this burden is borne entirely by the Indian Exchequer; and whether, as this Legation represents in part the British Government, he can say whether there are any Indians on the diplomatic staff of this Legation?

Earl WINTERTON

The latest figure I have for the cost of the Legation is approximately £33,500 a year. The whole cost is at present borne by Indian revenues. The post of Oriental Secretary is held by an Indian.
