HC Deb 19 November 1925 vol 188 cc546-7
7. Mr. H. WILLIAMS

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if it is intended to introduce the Factories Bill this Session?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir William Joynson-Hicks)

No, Sir.

Mr. MACMILLAN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the strong feeling on this side of the House as to the great urgency of the Measure?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I can only say that the Prime Minister announced two days ago that it was not intended to introduce the Bill this Session.

Viscountess ASTOR

Does that mean that it will be proceeded with next Session.

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I would ask my Noble Friend to wait until the decision as to business next Session.

Viscountess ASTOR

Is it not true that certain people do not want this Bill to go through, while we who are interested in social reform think it is very necessary?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I think my Noble Friend may take it from me that it has not unanimous support.

Mr. MACMILLAN

Can the right hon. Gentleman give a pledge?

9. Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Home Secretary when it is proposed to introduce the Bill providing for amendments of the Factory Acts and consolidation of the Factory Acts; and when the Bill will be ready for circulation to the Members of the House?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I have already answered the question.

Mr. ROBINSON

Not the last part of the question.

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The Prime Minister announced two days ago that the Bill will not be introduced this Session.
