HC Deb 19 November 1925 vol 188 cc560-1
28. Mr. BASIL PETO

asked the Under Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Government have looked into the special cases of hardship under The Shops (Early Closing) Act, 1020, at seaside and other holiday resorts: and whether they intend to introduce a Bill to deal with it?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The question of providing for an extension of hours at holiday resorts has been examined but the circumstances are not such as would justify the introduction of a Government Bill. Very few demands for a relaxation have been received from holiday resorts and it is clear from representations I have received that the proposal would be strongly opposed in various quarters. All I can promise is that the matter will be further considered when general legislation to amend the Shops Acts is undertaken.
