HC Deb 17 November 1925 vol 188 c186
23. Mr. HANNON

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now in a position to make any statement on the policy of the Government towards the safeguarding of the iron and steel industries?

The PRIME MINISTER

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave yesterday to a similar question from the hon. and gallant Member for Leith (Captain Benn).

Mr. HANNON

Is there any truth in the statement which appears in one of the morning papers to-day that the proceedings of the Committee have broken down?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have not seen the statement, nor is it true.

Mr. MACKINDER

Ts it not a fact that a large amount of pig iron produced by cheap labour in India, and subsidised, is imported now into this country?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have a very profound mistrust of everything that is called a fact.
