§ 56. Sir CHARLES OMANasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether there exists any Return brought up to date of persons receiving pensions on the Civil List from the Consolidated Fund, or whether the annual lists of new pensions are the only recent returns available; and, if this is the case, whether he will furnish a complete list down to 1025 of such persons and their pensions?
Mr. GUINNESSNo complete up-to-date Return is available, but annual lists of new pensions are issued. I doubt whether the value of a complete list would be commensurate with the cost of its preparation and publication.
§ Sir C. OMANIs it not for the benefit of this House and of the public that the total should be known?
Mr. GUINNESSI think we might be able to give the total, but to give a complete list would involve a computing bill of at least £50.
