§ Earl WINTERTONThere is no legislation in India which forbids the fining of workmen by their employers and the Government of India do not propose to introduce any such legislation.

§ Earl WINTERTONNo legislation corresponding to the Truck Acts exists in India; so far as my Noble Friend is aware there has been no necessity for such legislation in the conditions prevailing in India.
§ wages and hours of those engaged at the coking ovens?
§ Earl WINTERTONThe wages and hours worked vary in the different coalfields. Neither complete figures for India nor separate figures for those engaged in coking ovens are available. A statement in tabular form showing weekly hours and wages in a large representative mine in each of six coalfields in different provinces will be circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
