60. Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

asked the Minister of Pensions what steps have been taken in his Ministry to carry into effect the recommendations of the Joint Committee on Reorganisation of the Civil Service in so far as they relate to the employment of women, with special reference to the injunction that women should be given full and liberal opportunities of proving their fitness for the higher work of the Civil Service, and that it should be the duty of Departments to see that this is done?

In connection with the regrading of the staff of the Ministry, following on the recommendations of the Joint Committee on the Reorganisation cf the Civil Service, one post for a woman assistant principal, seven additional posts for women staff officers or higher executive officers and four posts for women executive officers were created. Since then an additional post for a woman staff officer has been authorised and filled.
