HC Deb 04 May 1925 vol 183 cc575-6
47. Major HORE-BELISHA

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware of the results which follow the withholding of the marriage allowance from ratings under the age of 25 years and from noncommissioned ranks in the Army and Air Force under the age of 26 years; and whether he will refer this matter to the co-ordinating Committee which is investigating questions affecting the three Services, with a view to granting marriage allowance to all those who are debarred at the present time either from getting married or from sustaining their wives and families if they do get married?

Mr. GUINNESS

The conditions governing the issue of marriage allowance to men of the Navy, Army and Air Force were decided after full consideration of the requirements of the three Services. The Government are not prepared to reduce the age limits for eligibility.
