asked the Minister of Health what is the number of houses at present under construction under the provisions of the Housing Acts of 1923 and 1924, respectively; and how many have been authorised under these two Acts but not yet commenced?

The position on the 1st April last, the latest date for which complete figures are available, was as follows: The total numbers of houses authorised at that date were 193,421 under the Housing Act of 1923 and 45,933 under the Act of 1924. Of these 70,421 and 2,486, respectively, had been completed; 43,314 and 10,817 were under construction; 31,317 and 12,643 were in contracts or definitely arranged for but not started; and 48,369 and 19,987 had not been contracted or arranged for on the 1st April.
