§ 12. Mr. THURTLEasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that there are still 29 persons detained under Bengal Regulation III of 1818, and that 28 of them are in gaol; and whether it is the intention of the Government to bring them under the provisions of the Bengal Ordinance?
§ Earl WINTERTONThe correct number is 27. All of these persons were placed under control a considerable time —in some cases more than a year—before the Ordinance was made, and I am not aware that the Government of Bengal intend to apply it to them.
