HC Deb 31 March 1925 vol 182 cc1102-3
68. Mr. HUGH MORRISON

asked the Minister of Transport what was the actual sum allocated from the Road Fund to unclassified roads in England, Wales and Scotland during the financial year 1924–25; and what sum is it proposed to allocate for similar purposes during the, financial year 1925–26?

Colonel ASHLEY

The actual grants made from the Road Fund in respect of unclassified roads and bridges in England, Wales and Scotland during the financial year 1924–25 will amount approximately to £820,000. I am not yet in a position to state what sum it is proposed to allocate for similar purposes during the financial year 1925–26.

Mr. HURD

Did we not understand from the right hon. Gentleman yesterday that the total amount for the last three years, including this new amount, was to be £5,000,000?

Colonel ASHLEY

If the hon. Member will look at my reply he will see that it deals with the question of the actual sum allocated, and I had to answer as to actual grants. This was because the money allocated for last year was not only for unclassified roads but also for first and second-class roads.
