HC Deb 31 March 1925 vol 182 c1116
97. Major HORE-BELISHA

asked the Minister of Health whether he has any figures to show to what extent co-operative building has been, and is being, resorted to; and, if in the opinion of his advisers it has been a success, will he cause a report to be issued indicating the conditions in which it has been successful?

Sir K. WOOD

Information is not available which would enable me to give a complete answer to the first part of the question; but 4,545 houses were built by public utility societies with State assistance under the Housing Act of 1919, and other such societies are receiving assistance from the local authorities or from my Department under the Act of 1923. Valuable work has been done by these societies, but so much must depend upon local conditions that my right hon. Friend does not think that he can usefully issue a report on the lines suggested.
