HC Deb 31 March 1925 vol 182 c1088
32. Mr. T. KENNEDY

asked the Secretary for Scotland the acreage of Scottish land under cultivation in 1874 and 1924, respectively, with the number of agricultural holdings of 100 acres or more, and the number under 100 acres in the two years mentioned?

Captain ELLIOT

In 1874 agricultural holdings in Scotland were not classified into size groups. I therefore give figures for 1875. The total area under crops and grass in Scotland in 1875 was 4,611,095 acres, and in 1924 4,715,290 acres. In 1875 there were 66,189 holdings in Scotland exceeding one but not exceeding 100 acres in size, and 14,607 holdings over 100 acres. The corresponding figures for 1924 were 60,728 and 15,482, respectively.
