HC Deb 26 March 1925 vol 182 cc620-1
65. Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Health whether he will gather information of the range of the rents of new council houses in a few typical rural areas, so as to permit of a judgment whether these new council houses are meeting the urgent housing needs of rural workers earning a comparatively low wage?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I shall be pleased to have inquiry made in a few areas, and will communicate with my hon. Friend later.

Mr. HURD

In the meantime, is the right hon. Gentleman able to confirm the statement that, as things are now, the new subsidy houses are failing to meet the urgent housing needs of rural workers earning a comparatively low wage?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I think it would be rather too early to give a final opinion on that subject.

73. Mr. MONTAGUE

asked the Minister of Health the number of houses approved under the Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1924, and in course of erection in agricultural parishes?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The number of houses authorised under the Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1924, for erection in agricultural parishes is 1,408, 1,241 to be erected by local authorities and 167 by private enterprise. Of these 285 are under construction and 104 have been completed.
