HC Deb 26 March 1925 vol 182 c611
41. Mr. HARRIS

asked the President of the Board of Education what is the number of teachers in urban and rural schools, respectively, who have qualified to teach physical training by taking a recognised course in a training college; and how many teachers in urban and rural schools, respectively, are known to possess qualifications for physical training superior to these?

Lord E. PERCY

A recognised course of physical training has been taken by all certificated teachers, with very few exceptions, who completed courses of training in 1910 or subsequent years, as well as by many certificated teachers who completed courses of training at earlier dates, and by many untrained certificated teachers. I could not, however, without setting on foot a special inquiry for the purpose, give the number of teachers now employed in schools who have qualified to teach physical training in this way; nor can I say how many teachers possess superior qualifications for physical training.
