HC Deb 26 March 1925 vol 182 cc602-3
21. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Bill for the better regulation of so-called night clubs has been drafted; if he can name a date for its introduction; and, if not, what is the reason for the delay?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir William Joynson-Hicks)

I can add nothing at present to the replies that I have given to previous questions by the hon. and gallant Member on this subject.

Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

The right hon. Gentleman was good enough to say that the Bill would be introduced before Easter: will that still be the case?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I still live in hope!

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that meantime, this great evil is going on unchecked owing to the state of the law?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I am doing my best to ensure that the Bill, when introduced, shall be satisfactory. I hope it is.

Lord H. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

Does the right hon. Gentleman intend to give this Bill precedence over the Factories Bill?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I have no power to decide the preference or the precedence of different Bills.
