HC Deb 26 March 1925 vol 182 c618
55. Sir FRANK NELSON

asked the Prime Minister if he is aware of the inconvenience caused to the commercial communities in India by the non-inclusion in the annual list of public and charter party holidays, issued by the Government of India usually in November of the previous year, of the actual date of the observance of the King-Emperor's birthday, and that such non-inclusion is necessitated owing to the fact that the actual date is not announced in this country until some time after the year has commenced; if he will consider an earlier announcement of the date decided upon; and whether he will consider deferring the observance of the King-Emperor's birthday until 30th June or 1st July each year, which would operate greatly to the convenience of those banks and business firms which make up their half-yearly accounts at this period?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have noted the first two parts of my hon. Friend's question. With regard to the remainder, however, and in view of the many considerations which arise, it is not proposed to alter the existing practice.
