§ 63. Mr. CECIL WILSONasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that, owing to certain new Regulations, an additional burden of £7,000 or £8,000 per annum has been thrown on to the City of Sheffield; and whether he can hold out any hope of assistance to this necessitous area in order to relieve this new burden?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI presume the hon. Member is referring to the Regulations relating to the disqualification of certain persons for the receipt of unemployment benefit. I have no information as to the additional burden which the hon. Member suggests is thrown on the City of Sheffield, and I cannot hold out any hope of special assistance being granted to that city for the purpose of relieving snob supposed additional burden.
Captain BENNWould the right hon. Gentleman be prepared to inquire from the boards of guardians what additional burdens have been laid upon them in consequence of these Regulations?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI think it is perfectly obvious that they could not answer that question in advance.
