HC Deb 23 March 1925 vol 182 cc28-9
59. Lord HUNTINGFIELD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, the number of men employed on work at Framlingham Castle; if any of these were unemployed and ex-service men; and what is the amount of the sum to be expended on this-work?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

The number of men at present employed on this work is 54, all of whom were unemployed, and 32 of whom are ex-service men. The amount of the sum to be expended on the work is, approximately, £1,500, which was specifically provided to relieve unemployment.

Lord HUNTINGFIELD

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether these men are actually unemployed before they are taken on for this work?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

Yes, that is the case. They were all unemployed before being taken on.
