HC Deb 23 March 1925 vol 182 c7
22. Mr. PERCY HARRIS

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if the Government adhere to the pledge of Mr Bonar Law's Government regarding the evacuation of Iraq?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

If, as I presume, the hon. Member refers to the policy embodied in the Protocol to the Iraq Treaty (which formed the subject of a statement in the House of Commons on 3rd May, 1923) the ratification of that instrument on 19th December last would appear to supply the answer.

20. Major CRAWFURD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is in a position to state approximately when the evacuation of Iraq will take place?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

It is with the intention of examining this among other questions that my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for the Colonies and for Air have just left for Bagdad. I should prefer to make no general statement in their absence.

Captain W. BENN

Are we not bound by Treaty to evacuate on a certain date?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

Certainly; the Treaty will be observed.
